FBR unblocks PIA’s bank accounts

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Thursday unblocked bank accounts of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) after matters over non-payment of dues were settled between the two national entities, ARY News reported. The national tax collection body had blocked PIA’s bank accounts over non-payment of taxes amid an ‘all-important’ audit from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). However, the bank accounts were unblocked after the national flag carrier assured the tax collection body of clearing all pending dues and submitted written assurance. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is grappling with a severe financial crisis, raising concerns about its ability to sustain air operations amidst mounting debts. CTD arrests ‘Lyari gang war commander’ in Karachi

KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) investigation department conducted an operation and claimed to have arrested a ‘commander’ of the Lyari gang war, ARY News reported on Tuesday. According to the CTD in charge statement, the arrested accused was identified as Mir Mohammad Bakhsh who is allegedly a commander of the Dashti Waseem group of Lyari gang war and was arrested from the old Golimar area. The arrested individual is allegedly involved in several gunfights against Sindh police and rangers, meanwhile, also been named in murder, terrorism, and extortion cases in the metropolis. The accused allegedly took extortion money from the businessman and hotel located in the Pak Colony area of Karachi and was also named for operating a drug den. KOHISTAN: Police have launched an investigation into the alleged murder of a girl by her own family after a video, featuring her and other boys, went viral on social media in Kolai-Palas district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Kohistan, ARY News reported Tuesday. According to police, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was contacted for probe after the pictures of girl and boys went viral on social media. Karachi smog: Govt urges public to wear face masks

KARACHI: Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar called on the public to ensure the use of face masks amid Karachi’s worsening air quality. According to the statement released by the Sindh Chief Minister’s House, the province’s chief executive has urged the educational institutes to ensure that students wear face masks to “protect themselves from illnesses concomitant with smog.” Furthermore, the chief minister has also urged all stakeholders to “move beyond car-centric infrastructure” and instead invest in public transport and pedestrian-friendly alternatives. ISLAMABAD: The former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has been granted B-class facilities in jail, ARY News reported on Monday. In compliance with a court directive, Chief Commissioner Anwarul Haq appeared before the High Court in a case involving the prison facilities of Fawad Chaudhry. During the court hearing, the Chief Commissioner presented an implementation report on Fawad Chaudhry’s requests. The report revealed that former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has been granted B-class facilities in jail, and as per the court’s directives, he has been permitted to meet with family and legal representatives. Additionally, the court granted permission for a separate meeting between Fawad Chaudhry’s wife and him within the prison premises. SHC orders to ban CNICs of SBCA officials

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday ordered to block Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) for the delay in the anti-encroachment drive in the city, ARY News reported.  The orders were passed by SHC Justice Nadeem Akhtar while hearing a plea against commercial activities on residential land in Karachi’s Gulzar Hijri. The SHC judge remarked that SBCA officials are ‘involved’ in the illegal construction in the metropolitan city and added that despite repetitive orders for action, the SBCA authorities are delaying the action. Power division recovers Rs55 billion from pilfers

ISLAMABAD: The power division on Tuesday shared the details of recovery and arrests during an ongoing drive against electricity pilfers across Pakistan, ARY News reported. KARACHI: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has discovered oil and gas reserves at Shah Bandar Block in Sujawal district of Sindh. “We are pleased to disclose that Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has made a gas and condensate discovery from exploration well Jhim East X-1, in Shah Bandar Block, located in District Sujawal, Sindh Province,” read the company’s notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday. The exploration well Jhim East X-1 was drilled to a depth of 2,545 meters to test the hydrocarbon potential of Upper Sand of Lower Goru Formation. “During testing of Lower Goru Upper Sand, the well flowed 13.69 million standard cubic feet per day of gas and 236 barrels per day of condensate at a wellhead flowing pressure (whfp) of 2,668 psig at 32/64” choke, “added the notice. The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday directed the provincial government to submit a reply to a plea seeking action against the responsible in the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) expired stents case. LAHORE: The air quality in Lahore remained unhealthy despite the ‘smart lockdown’ imposed by the caretaker Punjab government  According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), Lahore recorded an AQI of 380 on Sunday morning, which falls under the category of hazardous. The main pollutant was PM2.5, a fine particulate matter that can enter the lungs and bloodstream, resulting in serious health issues. The ‘smart lockdown’ aimed to reduce the vehicular and industrial emissions contributing to the smog formation. The Punjab government had also banned burning crop residues, garbage, tyres, polythene bags and leather in the province. KARACHI: The city traffic police has announced the imposition of a ban on riding motorbikes without wearing a helmet on Shahrah-e-Faisal, ARY News reported on Saturday. DIG Karachi Traffic Police Iqbal Dara said that starting with the Shahrah-e-Faisal, Karachi roads are now the no-go areas for bike drivers not wearing helmets. ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Defence has filed intra-court appeal challenging the Supreme Court’s October 23 judgement, declaring as unconstitutional the trial of May 9 rioters in military courts, ARY News reported. Markhor population rises in Pakistan

PESHAWAR: The population of Pakistan’s national animal Markhor, or wild goat, is increasing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ARY News reported. Pakistan is well-known for its markhor, which is distinguished by its nimble and sure-footed nature, as well as its long winter coat and massive spiral horns that can reach more than 1.5m (150 inches) in length on males. They inhabit the highest mountains and can be found in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province’s Chitral, Kohistan, and Kalam regions, as well as the northern Gilgit-Baltistan region.
