ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will airlift the bodies of labourers killed in Sistan Baluchestan, Iran, today (Wednesday), announced Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson. Anti-polio campaign ‘fails’ in achieving its set target

ISLAMABAD: The countrywide anti-polio campaign, held in January, ‘failed’ to achieve set targets, citing sources, ARY News reported on Tuesday. According to details obtained by ARY News, over 2.1 million children remained ‘unvaccinated’ during the drive, making the target short by 5pc set by Pakistan. In Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan 99pc children were inhaled anti-polio drops during the drive, while 98pc target of vacating children was achieved in Balochistan. In Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 96% children were vaccinated against the crippling disease of polio. Punjab records three more child deaths due to pneumonia

Pneumonia claimed three more lives of children during the past 24 hours in Punjab, ARY News reported quoting the health department on Monday. According to the Punjab Health Department, a total of 801 new pneumonia cases were reported across the province in the last 24 hours. Over the current month, Punjab has reported 243 pneumonia-related deaths, while 15,331 cases have been reported in the province. Pakistan slashes profit rates on National Savings’ certificates

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government has slashed profit rates for various national savings schemes, ARY News reported. According to a notification issued by the finance ministry, the profit rate on Regular Income Certificates has been reduced to 15 per cent from 15.12 per cent. Likewise, the return on National Saving Certificates has been scaled down to 16 per cent from 16.40%. Similarly, the profit rate on short-term certificates has been reduced to 20.34 per cent from 20.80 per cent. IHC restores DC Islamabad’s MPO powers

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday restored the powers of the Islamabad chief commissioner and deputy commissioner (DC) to detain individuals under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), ARY News reported. Sindh CM writes letter to PM Kakar for completion of M-6 motorway

KARACHI: Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh Maqbool Baqar has requested Interim PM Anwarul Haq Kakar to facilitate completion of M-6 motorway by taking personal interest, ARY News reported on Sunday. Court issues strict orders against late-night cafes

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered imposing fines on the cafes that stay open till late at night in residential areas. LHC judge Justice Shahid Karim passed the orders while hearing petitions filed by Haroon Farooq and others against ineffective measures to control smog. In the course of proceedings, a member of the Judicial Water and Environment Commission pointed out that a large number of cafes were operating beyond the stipulated time in the Johar Town area. At this stage, the assistant commissioner Model Town also reported delays in closure of cafes. The court took a serious note of the situation and ordered for imposing a Rs 200,000 fine for the initial offense, escalating to a Rs 500,000 fine for the second violation. KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a buying spree for a second consecutive session on Friday after the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Executive Board successfully concluded the first review of Pakistan’s economic reform programme. According to the PSX website, the KSE-100 index gained 565.79, or 0.88 per cent, at 11am to stand at 65,183.35 from the previous close of 64,617.56. IHC withdraws stay order on cipher case trial

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday withdrew its stay order, halting the in-camera cipher case trial against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, ARY News reported.  Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the petition against the in-camera trial in cipher case. On December 28, the court issued a stay order to halt cipher case trial against the former prime minister till January 11 (today). Counsel of PTI founder, Salman Akram Raja in his arguments before the court said the government admitted that the order of December 14 was ‘wrong’. He pleaded with the court to pass orders to nullify the proceedings of cipher case after December 14. Remittances sent home by overseas Pakistani workers declined by 6.8 per cent and reached $13.435 billion in the first six months of FY2023-24, ARY News reported on Wednesday quoting the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). According to the data provided by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the inflow of overseas Pakistani workers’ remittances clocked at $13.435 in the first six months of the ongoing fiscal year as compared to $14.418, during the same corresponding period of last fiscal year. KARACHI: Dense fog in parts of Pakistan continued to disrupt flight, train operations and road traffic in Pakistan on Tuesday, ARY News reported. Heavy fog has cast a thick veil over Pakistan’s skies, leading to the cancellation of 15 national and international flights.
