KARACHI: Police arrested at least 100 protestors as the newly elected members of the provincial legislature take oath in the maiden session of the Sindh Assembly, ARY News reported. Poliovirus detected in Lasbela Balochistan sewage samples

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Health sources on Wednesday confirmed the presence of poliovirus in sewage samples of the Lasbela district of Balochistan, ARY News reported. According to sources within Health Ministry, Type-1 Wild Poliovirus (WPV1) was detected in sewage samples collected from Lasbela district. “The genome sequencing of the virus, found in samples collected from Lasbela and Hub, showed that it belonged to Gadap Karachi. Last month, the Ministry of Health confirmed the presence of poliovirus in environmental samples from nine districts of the country. According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, the virus was found in one sample each from Quetta, Mastung, Multan, Peshawar, Nowshera, and Hub. Pneumonia claims 13 more lives of children in Punjab

Pneumonia claimed 13 more lives of children during the past 24 hours in Punjab, ARY News reported quoting the health department on Tuesday. According to the Punjab Health Department, a total of 304 new cases of pneumonia were reported during the last 24 hours. The health authorities said two children lost their lives during the last 24 hours in Lahore. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar for the third time on February 28 after the latter skipped today’s court appearance in missing Baloch students’ case, ARY News reported. IHC judge Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani issued orders while hearing the missing Baloch students plea. “The caretaker prime minister should not go to Karachi for the next hearing, but appear before the court,” the IHC judge added. “No one is above the law here,” he said. Gas consumers receive ‘inflated’ bills from SNGPL

LAHORE: Gas consumers in Lahore received inflated bills from the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), ARY News reported citing sources. According to sources, the power distributing company sent on average Rs 15,000 to Rs 90,000 bills to gas consumers and Rs 2000 was added to the bill in terms of fixed charges. The SNGPL sources said that gas is expensive across the world and Pakistan also added the gas tariff and other taxes. Earlier, the power division confessed to overbilling consumers, changing their slabs and damaging meters. The initial report on the NEPRA investigation report revealed concerning findings, indicating that over 4.5 million consumers received bills exceeding 31 days. Additionally, a staggering 381,510 damaged meters have resulted in excessive bills.
