Three bogies of Karachi-bound Shalimar Express derailed

LAHORE: An accident occurred to Karachi-bound Shalimar Express near Shahdara, Lahore, when three bogies of the train derailed, ARY News reported. According to details, the railway officials said that engineering department teams immediately rushed to the scene, and relief operations are currently underway. The railway officials stated that train services between Lahore, Rawalpindi, Narowal and Faisalabad have been suspended following the accident. SANGHAR: Police has registered FIR of triple murder in Jani Junejo village of Sanghar district, DIG Police Shaheed Benazirabad said on Thursday. A protest sit-in was staged by the families of the victims’ demanding registration of FIR against the influential persons allegedly involved in the killings. DIG Shaheed Benazirabad Pervez Ahmed Chandio has said that the case of killings has been registered with Fida Hussain Junejo as complainant. “Nine accused of the incident have been arrested,” DIG Police further said. “A heavy contingent of police has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order,” police official added. Met Office forecasts maximum 30 C temperature in Karachi today

KARACHI: Temperatures are going upward since last few days in Karachi as minimum temperature in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday was recorded 14.5 Celsius, according to the weather report. “Yesterday maximum temperature was recorded 29.5 Celsius in the city,” Met Office stated. “Maximum temperature in Karachi likely to reach 30 degree Celsius today”. Weather department said that the 89% humidity has been recorded in the air as northeastern winds blowing with light speed. Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz Tuesday pointed out that the winter receding in Karachi with no new cold wave in the port city. As per details, the death of ex-SC judge was confirmed by his family members. The funeral prayer for Faqir Mohammad Khokhar will be offered in Lahore. Justice Khokhar had been battling health issues for some time and was undergoing treatment at Services Hospital in Lahore. Power tariff likely to drop in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The power tariff is likely to drop in Pakistan by Rs1.30 per Unit for a month bringing hope for electricity consumers in the country, ARY News reported. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested a reduction in the monthly fuel price adjustment for December, which may result in a decrease of Rs1.30 per unit in the power tariff for a month. The CPPA’s petition will be heard tomorrow. According to the CPPA’s request, the fuel cost per unit of electricity in December was estimated to be Rs10.63, but the actual cost turned out to be Rs9.60 per unit. In December, 7.516 billion units of electricity were provided to Discos. The power generation breakdown for December reveals that 22.80% of electricity was generated from water, 10.06% from local coal, 1.59% from imported coal, and 0.03% from furnace oil. FBR to face Rs50 billion revenue shortfall in January

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will face a revenue shortfall of over Rs 50 billion in the ongoing month January 2025, ARY News reported citing sources. According to sources, the FBR will likely collect only around Rs900 billion in taxes, falling short of its target of Rs956 billion. Sources with in FBR revealed that the revenue shortfall from July to January may exceed Rs435 billion. So far, the FBR has collected around Rs700 billion in taxes and is expected to collect an additional Rs200 billion in the next three days. The FBR has set an ambitious target of collecting Rs3,000 billion in taxes during the third quarter of the current fiscal year. The targets for January, February, and March are Rs956 billion, Rs950 billion, and Rs1,200 billion, respectively. NEPRA set to hear KE’s plea for reduction in tariff

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to hear K-Electric’s (KE) request for a monthly adjustment, which may result in a decrease of Rs. 4.98 per unit of electricity for consumers in the city. K-Electric has filed a petition with NEPRA for the monthly adjustment for November 2024. If approved, the reduction will provide a refund of over Rs. 7 billion, to K-Electric consumers. K-Electric has also requested NEPRA to allow the company to refund the excess amount collected from consumers. The NEPRA will conduct hearing on the KE’s plea on Wednesday. Earlier, the NEPRA reduced electricity prices under the monthly Fuel Price Adjustment (FCA), making electricity cheaper for consumers. According to reports, a reduction of 75 paisas per unit has been announced for consumers of government-owned DISCOs under the November FCA. Preparations to demolish bunkers in strife-torn Kurram

KURRAM: The authorities have initiated steps to implement the peace agreement brokered between warring tribes for maintenance of peace in strife-torn Kurram district. The preparations have been completed for demolition of bunkers at Balash Khel and Khar Kali as part of the peace process, set to begin today under the peace agreement. The bunkers and fronts will be dismantled on the instructions of the district administration in Lower Kurram. Concerned government officials will be present for demolition of bunkers district administration said. Under the peace agreement, all fronts in the district will be demolished by February 1, and weapons used in the tribal clashes will be collected and disposed of. The agreement was a product of extensive negotiations and aims to bring lasting peace to the region. SBP announces advance MPC meetings calendar

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced the half-yearly schedule of Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meetings on a rolling basis. As per the issued schedule the first meeting of the calendar year 2025 will be convened on Monday January 27 and decisions of the monetary policy committee will be announced later by the governor SBP in a press conference. The next MPC meeting is scheduled on Monday March 10 and the third meeting as per the half yearly schedule will be held on May 5 while the fourth MPC meeting is scheduled on June 16.
