IMF ‘lauds’ Sindh’s economic performance

ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has commended Sindh’s economic performance, stating that the province has achieved most of its economic targets, ARY News reported citing sources. According to sources, this was revealed during a meeting between Sindh’s Provincial Secretary of Finance, Fayaz Jatoi, and IMF officials in Islamabad. Sources revealed that the IMF reviewed Sindh’s economic performance over the past eight months and was briefed on the province’s revenue board’s performance. The IMF appreciated Sindh’s surplus of Rs 264 billion in the first six months of the current fiscal year. The IMF also praised Sindh’s single sales tax returns and was informed about the complexities of agricultural income tax in the province. KARACHI: The Met Office has forecast spike in temperatures in Karachi as mercury likely to soar to 38 Celsius as dry weather prevails in Sindh. The hot weather spell could persist until Wednesday (12 March) next week, according to weather report. Temperatures expected to go down in Karachi after March 12. Maximum temperature on Friday soared to 37.5 Celsius. “Mercury likely to soar to 36-38 Celsius in Karachi next week,” Met Department earlier said. The Pakistan government has amended the Civil Servants Promotion Rules, 1973 following the Prime Minister’s directives, ARY News reported on Friday. As per details, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved amendments to Civil Servants Promotion Rules 1973, with the Establishment Division issuing a new Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO). As per the revised rules, an officer’s case for promotion to Grade 22 will only be considered twice. If promotion is not granted in both instances, the officer will not be reconsidered, effectively retiring in their current grade. ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to construct a 200-bed hospital in Tharparkar, a desert district of Sindh, sources told ARY News on Wednesday. Tharparkar district is one of the twenty-nine districts of Sindh. It is largest district of Sindh province by land area. The livelihood of Thari people depends on rainfall agriculture. The Ministry of National Health has formally communicated the decision to the Sindh chief secretary through an official letter. The initiative follows Prime Minister’s 2023 visit to Thar, during which he announced the hospital’s construction.
