WASHINGTON: Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned on Tuesday that the United States would give up on mediation unless Russia and Ukraine put forward “concrete proposals,” as US patience wanes on an early priority for Donald Trump. MUSCAT, Oman: The United States and Iran were to hold a fresh round of technical and high-level nuclear negotiations in Oman on Saturday, after both sides reported progress in previous meetings. Taiwan proposes another $10b in aid to deal with US tariffs

Taiwan’s premier on Thursday proposed another $10 billion in spending as a special budget to help the economy deal with the impact of U.S. tariffs. Taiwan had been due to be hit with 32% U.S. tariffs two weeks ago, until President  Donald Trump  paused his “ reciprocal tariffs ” for 90 days. Speaking at a news conference in Taipei, Premier Cho Jung-tai said the initial T$88 billion ($2.71 billion) aid package would be increased to as much as T$410 billion ($12.61 billion), including financing assistance for companies, measures to stabilise the job market and subsidies for electricity. The special budget will need to be approved by parliament, where opposition parties have a majority and have this year imposed sweeping cuts on Taiwan’s main  budget , saying they are targeting waste. ISLAMABAD: As the current financial year 2024-25 is nearing to end, the Pakistan government has accelerated the provision of funds for federal development projects, ARY News reported on Wednesday, citing sources.  As per details, Pakistan government has released 81 per cent of the total development funds so far while over Rs424.19 billion have been spent so far. Out of the Rs50 billion allocated for parliamentarians’ schemes in the current fiscal year, Rs48 billion have already been released, with approximately Rs35 billion spent so far. Sources add that between July 1, 2024, and April 15, 2025, the government approved the release of Rs. 889 billion for federal development projects. A 13-year-old boy was injured at a theme park after being thrown out of his seat from a 360° swing ride when his seatbelt suddenly malfunctioned. The incident occurred at Jawa Timur Park 1 in Batu, Indonesia, as the boy rode the “360 Pendulum” with three friends. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has lifted the stay order on the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s investigation into alleged rigging in the NA-18 Haripur constituency, won by opposition leader Omar Ayub. Acting Chief Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar issued a written order, disposing of the petition. The court directed the ECP to hear both parties before proceeding with the inquiry and to make a decision in accordance with the law. Omar Ayub had challenged the Election Commission’s action and the July 10 order to investigate rigging in NA-18 Haripur. ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government is expected to generate Rs17 billion in additional revenue by June 30 following a fresh hike in the petroleum levy, ARY News reported on Thursday, citing sources.  The increase comes as part of the government’s commitment to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with the petroleum levy raised across multiple fuel categories, resulting in an estimated monthly gain of Rs7 billion for the treasury. As per the revised structure, the petrol levy has been increased by Rs8.02, bringing the total to Rs78.02 per litre. High-speed diesel now carries a levy of Rs77.01 per litre after a Rs7.01 hike. Three martyred in gun attack excise mobile squad in KP

NOWSHERA: Three people including two Khyber Pakhtunkhwa policemen were martyred in a gun attack that took place in Nowshera district, ARY News reported, citing Excise Department. According to police, the attack took place late at night in the limits of GT Road, Nowshera. The attack resulted in the martyrdom of three personnel, including the squad’s driver. The assailants targeted the mobile squad, causing fatal injuries to Constable Iftikhar and Constable Mujahid, who succumbed to their wounds at the scene. Sub-Inspector Farooq Bacha, who was in charge of the mobile squad, sustained injuries during the attack. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, Shabbir Khan, who was critically wounded, later embraced martyrdom, bringing the death toll to three.
