Met Office forecast rainfall in country from June 18

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Met office has forecast rainfall in parts of the country from June 18th as moist currents from Arabian Sea are likely to penetrate in upper/central parts of the country. It was drizzling in some parts of Karachi with partly cloudy weather as Met Office forecast a hot and humid weather during the next 24 hours. Maximum temperature in the city is likely to reach to 37 Celsius with ratio of humidity recorded 72 percent. Southwestern winds blowing with 10 to 16 kilometers speed today. A Shallow westerly wave likely to approach western parts of the country. Under the influence of this weather system thunderstorm-rain is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 18th June to 22nd June with occasional gaps. Sindh govt to present budget 2024-25 today

KARACHI: The Sindh government will present its annual budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 today Friday (June 14) in the Sindh Assembly. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who also holds the portfolio of finance, will present the budget at 3:00 pm. According to sources, the Sindh cabinet meeting will be held at the CM House at 9:00am. The budget proposals will be reviewed during the cabinet meeting. In the budget 2024, the government will propose a 30 percent increase in the salaries of public sector employees, while Rs 163 billion allocated for the budget of Sindh police. Yesterday, Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtuba Shujaur Rehman presented the provincial ‘tax-free’ budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 with a total outlay of 5.44 trillion amid protest by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). Oil slips on US growth worries, ample crude supply

Oil prices fell in early trade on Thursday, as investors digested that the U.S. Federal Reserve had likely pushed back a possible interest rate cut to December, while ample U.S. crude and fuel stocks also weighed on the market. Brent crude futures lost 23 cents, or 0.3%, to $82.37 a barrel, as of 0415 GMT, and U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 20 cents, or 0.3%, to $78.30. Both benchmarks had gained about 0.8% in the previous session. The Fed held rates steady on Wednesday and pushed out the start of policy easing to perhaps as late as December. Higher borrowing costs tend to dampen economic growth, and can by extension, limit oil demand. Fed Chair Jerome Powell said in a press conference after the U.S. central bank’s two-day policy meeting ended that inflation had fallen without a major blow to the economy, adding that there was no reason to think that can’t go on. Women among five killed in Faisalabad rickshaw-car collision

FAISALABAD: In a horrific incident, at least five including four women killed in a Rickshaw-Car collision in Faisalabad, ARY News reported. As per details, the incident occurred near Jhumra flyover where a speeding car rammed into a loader rickshaw and killed five, injuring three others. The police officials stated that a worker identified as Amjad was on his way home with his family when the speeding car collided with the loader rickshaw. The deceased include five members of one family, including mother, her two minor daughters, her son and her mother-in-law. Furthermore, the injured father and two sons were shifted to the nearby hospital whereas the suspect driver managed to flee the spot of the incident. Three ANF personnel martyred in Jhelum encounter

JHELUM: At least three Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) personnel were martyred in a shootout with suspected drug traffickers at Turkey toll police, Jhelum, ARY News reported. According to police, the suspects were traveling from Rawalpindi to Lahore on GT Road when they were intercepted at the toll plaza. The suspects opened fire on the ANF team after they were stopped, resulting in the martyrdom of three personnel, including Head Constable Gulzar, Zeeshan, and Mazhar. The police have arrested one suspect, while two others fled the scene and hid in the nearby hills. Police officials stated that the vehicle used by the suspects has been taken to the Dina Police Station for further investigation and a search operation is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects. Two more children die in Sahiwal hospital fire tragedy

SAHIWAL: The death toll from the fire at Sahiwal Teaching Hospital reached 9 after two more infants succumbed to their injuries on Tuesday, ARY News reported. Sources in the hospital said that the condition of the children deteriorated due to the lack of oxygen. The deceased babies had been identified as Areeba, Abbas, Javed, Ali, Sadia Riaz, Asim and Sarwar. The deceased belonged to Okara, Kamalia, Bonga Hayat, Noor Shah and other areas of Punjab. A massive fire had erupted at the Children’s Ward of Sahiwal Teaching Hospital on Saturday morning, which reportedly was caused by a short-circuit. The hospital staff shifted the kids from the ward to a safe place, while some of the parents even took their children to their homes. At the time of the incident, the ward housed 75 children undergoing treatment. Five vehicles of the fire brigade department participated in the operation to extinguish the blaze. It’s been 72 hours since the incident, yet no one has been held accountable.

NIH issues advisory on Naegleria

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has issued an advisory after increasing cases of brain-eating amoeba; Naegleria fowleri. The advisory has been forwarded to the federal and provincial health departments, as well as water and sanitation agencies. According to the advisory, cases and deaths due to Naegleria have been reported in Pakistan since 2008. The advisory stated that brain-eating amoeba cases are being reported from various cities, including Karachi. Symptoms of Naegleria include high fever, headache, vomiting, and neck stiffness, the advisory noted. At the final clinical stage, the virus can lead to coma, the advisory NIH warned. The water supply department is advised to ensure the prescribed amount of chlorine is added to the water. The advisory highlighted that inadequate chlorine levels in water, especially during high temperatures, can cause Naegleria. LAHORE: The wildlife department officials conducted a raid in Chuhang area here against an inter-provincial network of sale and purchase of partridges, ARY News reported on Tuesday. The team of the Punjab Wildlife department headed by D.G. Wildlife busted the online network of sale and purchase of partridges allegedly run by a U-tuber Mazhar Iqbal. The wildlife officials arrested Mazhar Iqbal, who was selling eggs, chicks as well as grown up partridges online, a spokesperson of the wildlife department stated. “Accused Mazhar Iqbal was bringing partridges from Nawabshah in Sindh and selling birds in Punjab,” department spokesman said. “Partridges seized in the raid will be shifted to Lahore Safari Park for their proper rehabilitation,” spokesman added. Police on high alert at churches across Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Police have been put on high alert and ordered to enhance security measures at churches across the province, ARY News reported. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed RPOs and DPOs to personally inspect security arrangements at churches and sensitive locations. Additional police personnel and snipers will be deployed at sensitive churches, while Dolphin Squad, PRU, and Elite Teams will conduct effective patrolling around churches. The police chief has also urged religious scholars, Christian community leaders, and peace committee members to promote interfaith harmony and ensure peaceful religious gatherings. First human case of bird flu died from multiple factors: WHO

A man infected with H5N2 bird flu, the first confirmed human infection with the strain, died from multiple factors, the WHO said on Friday, adding that investigations were ongoing. The World Health Organization on Wednesday announced that the first laboratory-confirmed human case of infection with H5N2 avian influenza virus had been reported from Mexico. Mexico’s health ministry said the 59-year-old man had “a history of chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes (and) long-standing systemic arterial hypertension”. He had been bedridden for three weeks before the onset of acute symptoms, developing fever, shortness of breath, diarrhoea, nausea and general malaise on April 17. The man was taken to hospital in Mexico City a week later and died that day. “The death is a multi-factorial death, not a death attributable to H5N2,” WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier told journalists in Geneva on Friday. His body was tested for flu and other viruses, and H5N2 was detected, Lindmeier said. S

HUB: In a tragic incident, a passenger coach caught fire, resulting in the deaths of 3 people and injuring 12 others in Hub area of Balochistan, ARY News reported.
