Woman rescued from Myanmar earthquake rubble
Rescuers freed a woman from the ruins of a hotel in Myanmar, officials said on Monday, a glimmer of hope three days after a massive earthquake that killed around 2,000 as searchers in Myanmar and Thailand raced against time to find more survivors. The woman was pulled from the rubble after 60 hours trapped under the collapsed Great Wall Hotel in the city of Mandalay after a 5-hour operation by Chinese, Russian and local teams, according to a Chinese embassy Facebook post. It said she was in stable condition early on Monday. Mandalay is near the epicentre of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake on Friday that wreaked mass devastation in Myanmar and damage in neighbouring Thailand. The Dawoodi Bohra community across Pakistan is celebrating Eidul Fitr today with religious enthusiasm. Special Eid prayer gatherings were held in Bohra community mosques nationwide. In Karachi, the largest Eid congregation took place at Tahiri Mosque in Saddar, where a large number of community members participated. KP govt announces remission for prisoners on Eidul Fitr
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister has announced a two-month reduction in sentences for prisoners on the occasion of Eidul Fitr 2025, ARY News reported. According to a notification issued by the provincial Home Department, this reprieve does not apply to those convicted of terrorism, murder, kidnapping, or other serious crimes. The sentence reduction is only applicable to prisoners convicted of minor offenses. This news comes as Pakistan prepares to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, on March 30 or 31, depending on the sighting of the moon. Earlier on Friday, President Asif Ali Zardari granted a special 180-day sentence reduction for prisoners on the occasion of Pakistan Day and Eidul Fitr 2025 under Article 45 of the Constitution.
