PTI files petition in SHC against party members arrests
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (PHC) Wednesday served notices to parties over a petition against detention of PTI leaders and party workers under the MPO, ARY News reported.
PTI lawyer Abdul Jaleel Khan has filed petition in the high court challenging arrest of 263 of party workers under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
The court has summoned reply over the plea, from the Sindh government, home department, IG Police Sindh and others by May 29.
According to the petition 263 workers and leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been arrested and all of them have been detained for 30 days.
Petitioner has requested to the court to issue order for immediate release of the detained party workers and leaders. The petition also pleaded to court to declare detention orders of all party members as void.
Violent clashes broke out across Pakistan on May 09 after former prime minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan was arrested at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in a graft case.
Protests were held in remote areas and major cities as the party workers agitated over arrest of their leader.
Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad summoning the armed forces to ensure law and order.
Army installations and Corps Commander’s house in Lahore also came under attack during a protest of PTI workers.
