IMF Pakistan reach $3bn staff-level agreement

ISLAMABAD: International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Friday, announced that a “Stand-By Arrangement” between the global money lender with Pakistan has been reached successfully, ARY News reported. Earthquake jolts Islamabad adjoining areas

ISLAMABAD: A magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolted the federal capital Islamabad and nearby areas on Thursday, ARY News reported on Thursday quoting National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC). According to the NSMC, the depth of the quake was 170 kilometres with its epicenter being deduced to be the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border. Nine of family shot dead in Malakand over domestic dispute

MALAKAND: At least nine members of a family were gunned down in Malakand when unidentified persons entered a house and opened fire, ARY News reported on Wednesday. According to details, armed men barged into a house in the Bagardara area on the outskirts of Malakand in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at night and started firing indiscriminately. As a result, four women, three men and children were killed. A 12-year-old child miraculously remained safe. According to the assistant commissioner, three people have been arrested over the incident. He claimed that the victim family’s son-in-law was involved in the incident, who killed his own wife among nine people. KOHISTAN: At least six people were killed while four others sustained injuries as a vehicle in Lower Kohistan veered off the road and fell into a ditch, ARY News reported on Tuesday. The tragic incident occurred when an ill-fated vehicle heading to Kolai-Palas from Bisham lost control and plunged into a ditch. The accident resulted in the loss of six lives, while four individuals sustained injuries, rescue officials said. Award-winning rapper, activist and actor Tupac Shakur received a posthumous star on Wednesday on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where his sister and fellow rappers spoke of the musician’s legacy around the world. “Tupac knew deep down that he was always meant for something great,” Sekyiwa Shakur said amid the crowd of around 100 people. “As his little sister, I had the privilege to watch that greatness unfold.” Watch ARY News live on  live.arynews.tv Shakur rose from a childhood of poverty in Harlem to become one of the best-selling musical artists with over 75 million records sold worldwide. “From the first time he stepped foot on the stage of the Apollo Theater at 13 years old, before anyone recognized his name, he knew he had the dream to have a star here on the Walk of Fame,” she said. Pakistan’s new budget crucial to secure IMF board review

KARACHI: Passing a budget for fiscal year 2023-24 that meets IMF program objectives is key to paving the way for a final review under the current bailout, the lender’s resident official for Pakistan said. Pakistan stands to secure one board review under the current bailout package of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) if measures in its budget, set to be unveiled on Friday, meet the lender’s expectations, IMF’s resident representative for Pakistan, Esther Perez Ruiz said. The IMF programme runs out this month with about $2.5 billion in funds, under three prior reviews, yet to be released, as Pakistan struggles to strike a deal with the lender while battling record inflation, fiscal imbalances and low reserves. Cyclone developing in Arabian Sea ‘could hit’ Karachi

KARACHI: A low-pressure system present above the Arabian Sea is likely to turn into a cyclonic circulation in next 24 hours, the weather department said Tuesday. “A low-pressure area (LPA) has formed over the southeast Arabian Sea at around latitude 11.0 N & longitude 66.0 E at about 1,550km south/southwest of Karachi,” said Sindh Chief Meteorological Officer Dr Sardar Sarfraz. “Due to favourable meteorological conditions, the system is likely to intensify further into a depression (strong LPA) and move initially in northwest direction,” he added. He said that the Met Office was closely monitoring the low-pressure area and currently none of the Pakistan coastal areas is under any threat. If the low-pressure area does concentrate into a cyclonic storm, it will be named Cyclone Biparjoy.
