Asad Umar, Aleema, Uzma Khan’s bail extended

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Monday extended the interim bail plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Asad Umar, Aleema and Uzma Khan, in May 9 attack cases, ARY News reported. Sisters of the PTI chairman, Aleema, Uzma Khan and former minister Asad Umar are accused of attacking state properties on May 9, following the arrest of the former prime minister Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The ATC Judge subsequently scheduled further arguments on the pre-arrest bails for November 22. Protests had broken out across Pakistan after the PTI chairman was arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court on May 9. The protests were held in remote and major cities as the party workers were agitated due to their chairman’s arrest, with Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad summoning the armed forces to ensure law and order. Karachi weather turns cold after late night rain

The weather turned cold after parts of Karachi received light rain on Saturday night, ARY News reported. According to the meteorological department, the drizzle was reported in parts of Karachi, which turned the weather cold in the city. City’s temperature was recorded at 26 degrees centigrade at 9 in the morning, while the percentage of humidity remained 57% The MET office further said that Karachi’s maximum temperature to remain between 32 to 34 degrees centigrade today. 95 arrested in Myanmar scam operation raids

YANGON, Myanmar: Myanmar police arrested 95 people during raids this week on an online scam operation in the commercial hub of Yangon, authorities said. The country has been in chaos since a military coup in February 2021, with criminal syndicates taking advantage of the lawlessness to run scam centres, particularly in border regions. Authorities arrested a total of 95 people at three addresses in Yangon on Thursday — most of them Burmese, though some were from unspecified foreign countries. Police seized a BMW car, laptops, phones, desktop computers and other equipment in the raids, according to a Myanmar junta statement released late Friday. “On the computers was data from people outside the country, used for scamming money online,” the statement said. Officers also raided the home of the suspected ringleader of the operation, but he remains at large, it added. Over 500 PIA flights cancelled in 11 days

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is on the verge of a shutdown as it cancelled over 500 flights in the past 11 days due to the unavailability of fuel, ARY News reported on Friday quoting the national carrier’s spokesman. The national flag carrier is facing arguably its worst crisis in history as Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has cut the fuel supply over unpaid dues. The move forced the airline to cancel 537 flights since Oct 13. Yesterday, as many as 49 domestic and international flights were cancelled from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta, Multan, Peshawar and other cities after the Pakistan State Oil (PSO) slashed its fuel supply to the PIA, sources said. The flights include Karachi to Islamabad (PK 300, PK 301, PK 368, and PK 369) and Karachi to Turbat (PK 501 and PK 502), all of which had to be called off. KARACHI: An alarming increase in the cases of respiratory infections including influenza and others is being reported in Karachi with the transition of the weather, ARY News reported.  Health experts said the cases of the illness causing flu-like symptoms among people, especially among elderly citizens are increasing. Doctors have been seeing a surge in respiratory tract infections since the start of this month. Most patients presenting with high fever, cough, body pains, runny nose, headaches and sore throat are managed well with symptomatic treatment. KARACHI: The restrictions on fuel supply owing to non-payment of dues continued to affect Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight operations as another 49 flights were cancelled on Wednesday, ARY News reported. As many as 49 domestic and international flights have been cancelled from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta, Multan, Peshawar and other cities after the Pakistan State Oil (PSO) slashed its fuel supply to the PIA, sources said. The flights include Karachi to Islamabad (PK 300, PK 301, PK 368, and PK 369) and Karachi to Turbat (PK 501 and PK 502), all of which had to be called off. Lahore flights, including PK 302, PK 303, and PK 306, were affected as well. Bangladesh trains collide, killing 17, wounding scores

As many as 17 people lost their lives, while more than 100 got injured after two trains collided in the Kishoreganj district in Dhaka Division, Bangladesh. According to the details, a passenger train crashed into a freight train in Bhairab, about 80 km (50 miles) northeast of the capital Dhaka. The superintendent of Dhaka Railway police, Anowar Hossain, stated that a total of seventeen bodies have been recovered and many injured have been taken to the hospital. “The freight train smashed into the passenger train from behind, and crumpled two coaches,” he said. ‘PTI chairman cannot be produced in ECP contempt case’

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior on Tuesday informed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that producing PTI chairman Imran Khan in a contempt case is a ‘security risk’, ARY News reported.  Last year in August, the ECP had issued notices to Chaudhry, and others for allegedly using “intemperate” language against  Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja  and the electoral body. KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee continues upward trend against the US dollar in the interbank market on Tuesday, ARY News reported quoting forex dealers. The Pakistani rupee gained Rs0.20 against the USD and currently trading at Rs278.92 in the interbank market, the forex dealers said. The banks are selling the greenback to the importers at Rs279, while the US currency was being sold at Rs281 against the local currency in the open market. According to the report, the cyclonic storm (TEJ) over the Southwest Arabian Sea strengthened into a severe cyclonic storm (SCS) as it continued to move towards west-northwest. The Arabian Sea storm has been presently at a distance of 750km in the southeast of Oman and will likely to get further intensity by this evening, PMD Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz said. LAHORE: Punjab Police and Safe City Authority conducted a joint operation and successfully apprehended a five-member dacoit gang from Lahore, ARY News reported. Electricity tariff likely to go up again in Pakistan

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Friday received the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) request to jack up the electricity tariff by 55 paisas per unit. According to details, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear the CPPA plea on November 1. The recent increase in electricity tariff has been sought for the month of September under monthly fuel adjustment. The CPPA said in September 12.92 billion electric units were produced at the cost of Rs7.61/ unit, while the reference cost for September was fixed at Rs7.7 per unit. In September, 37.55 per cent of electricity in Pakistan was produced from hydel, 11.08 per cent from local coal and 4.83 per cent from imported coal. 7.54% of total power was produced from local gas while 15.95 per cent of power generation in Pakistan was made through imported RLNG. ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) Monday ordered the Registrar’s Office to provide information about court employees within seven days, ARY News reported. A three-member bench of SC headed by CJP Justice Qazi Faez Isa announced the reserved verdict after approving the appeal of the court employee, seeking information on SC employees under the Right to Information Act. Dollar sheds 93 paisa, trading at Rs278.58 in interbank

KARACHI: The US dollar drops further 93 paisa and trading at Rs278.58 in interbank market on Thursday morning, ARY News reported. Pakistani rupee continued its gains in currency market against dollar. According to forex dealers the PKR gained another 93 paisa against the greenback in the interbank market and trading at Rs278.58. The banks are selling dollars to importers at Rs279.03, currency dealers said. The US currency has shed Rs0.50 in the open market and being sold at Rs278.50, dealers added. Amid tightening of screws at illegal currency business and crackdown on smuggling of dollar, the US currency shed 5.50 rupee in interbank trading last week. Another patient dies of Congo virus in Quetta

QUETTA: Another person died of the Congo Virus at the Fatima Jinnah Hospital on Friday, ARY News reported. The patient was admitted to the hospital two days ago. Doctors confirmed that he was inflicted with the deadly Congo Virus. At least 40 patients with the Congo Virus have been brought to the hospital so far this year. Of them, 15 died. This is not the first instance that an epidemic of Congo virus fever has broken out in Balochistan. In late 80s and mid-90s dozens of people had died of the disease, health sources said. The virus is primarily transmitted to humans by ticks on cattle and other livestock and can cause severe fever, muscle pain, vomiting, and internal bleeding.
